The hike to Sallent Falls (El Salt del Sallent, literally, Sallent River Jump, Sant Privat d’en Bas, Girona) is a great opportunity to enjoy a trek which is not too demanding physically (ideal for those of us who are not perfectly fit), and yet it takes you to a hilltop with fantastic views of the Sant Privat d’en Bas valley and the Garrotxa region: dozens of peaks -among them the majestic Puigsacalm (SE) and ultra-green fields that go as far as the mountain rigdes…

Of La Garrotxa’s National Volcanic Park area this is one of the most recommendable routes. Interestingly, it is also one of the least touristic ones, since it keeps well out of La Fageda d’en Jordà (one of La Garrotxa’s 26 natural reserves; an amazing forest which grows on a magma layer spewed by Croscat volcano thousands of years ago), which in the last decade has unfortunately become a cross between a parade and Disneyland…
