Cavatast 2009 – Infocostabrava's Selection of Tried Cavas
The Infocostabrava team attended this year’s Cavatast 2009 edition, officially making it a recurring event in their agenda. For a full summary and read about the mechanics of the tradeshow, read our Cavatast article. While the format and presentation of the tradeshow hadn’t -thankfully- changed, this time around we concentrated on keeping a record of the cavas we tried and make notes on our favourites. The full list as follows:

- Alsina & Sardà, Brut
- Montesquieu, Brut Nature
- Gramona, Brut
- Castell de Peralada, Brut Nature
- Josep Mª Ferret Guasch, Brut Nature
- Mas Tinell, Brut Nature
- Maria Casanovas, Pinot Noir Brut
- Varias, Brut Nature
- Naveran, Extra Brut
The 3 winners were the Montesquieu, the Covides and the Varias. It was judged that their fine bouquet, dryness and lack of acidity -some cavas did have that kickback- made them our favourites!
As far as food was concerned, we were somwhat disappointed to see that one of the represented restaurants was offering the same dishes as last year…Despite this fact, the team was particularly partial to their oven-roasted duck with cava and prune sauce, so not all was lost. Cal Blay offered one of the best combinations in their sole with all-i-oli and oven-roasted potatoes.
In summary, this year’s Cavatast did not fail to live up to our expectations. It is a perfect occasion to get to know some of the most important players in the trade and to be able to sample many cavas at the same time, so make sure you put it in your diary for next year’s edition!
