Plaça de Sant Felip Neri – Worth a Shot
Plaça de Sant Felip Neri is one of the most secluded squares you can find dead center in Barcelona. You will find this small square only a stone’s throw away from the old Cathedral, where only few tourists manage to stumble upon.
During the summer time it makes for a very nice hideaway from the sun; especially if you take a table at the Hotel Neri’s restaurant outside (which also has very good food). You can just relax there and enjoy time fly by. It is normally extremely quiet -no cars, barely people crossing the square on their way somewhere else, so it makes a great treat for one’s feet after having spent all morning walking around the many. Sit down and order a chilled glass of white wine or a frozen jar of beer. You probably deserve it!
While seated in the terrace, you will definitely notice the church façade and how it’s covered with what seem to be bullet holes. Apparently, during the Spanish Civil War a bomb fell here killing the children who had gone in to hide inside. This might add to the quiet, almost sombre, atmosphere you will be able to enjoy there.
