Ikibana – 'cause Sushi is Brazilian
Located in El Borne, just around the corner from Big Fish and Incógnito, there is Ikibana. As its title suggests, Ikibana isn’t the regular Japanese sushi restaurant; it is actually Brazilian.
Sushi-wise, this actually isn’t a bad thing. Next to the regular sushi, make, sashimi dishes, there are also some options that are more in the realm of salsa, sun or whatever it is that makes Brazil special. With names like Bruce Lee, however, they may not sound all that Brazilian, or taste as Brazilian, but well, they still are. They also have an amazing starter with different kinds of seaweed, that is big enough for four to enjoy and to start off an amazing meal.
The fact that the restaurant is Brazilian may be even more obvious once you have a look at their dessert and cocktails menu. Examples of Brazilian “twists” would be: having a Caipirosca or Caipirinha with your sushi, trying the Brazilian pudding for dessert, or going for the maracujá cream, which is very fruity and…maracuja-y. Another giveaway could be the soft tropical music playing in the background, not too loud so you can still enjoy the company, but quite enjoyable.
I’ve been told they also project fish swimming on the floor at times, but when I went there last night, the virtual stream had dried out so we had to settle for a live projection from the kitchen, showing how the cooks were preparing the meals.
In short, it’s a great place to have dinner. Price-wise it’s also good, around €25 per person (wine and dessert included).
