The Botanic Gardens
As mentioned in another article, on Sundays, after 3pm, you can visit most of Barcelona’s museums for free -and the good news is that the Botanic Gardens are included in the deal. When the weather is nice, it’s worth choosing this location to spend some quality time with your family, or even on a date. It’s not one of those places -so frequent in Barcelona- that attracts crowds, so you’re sure to have a nice relaxing time.
If you’re there on a date, you can find plenty of nice and quiet spots overlooking Barcelona, and enjoy the colours and scents of the garden. I could swear it smells like maple syrup in one part, and cherry syrup in another! The only thing missing is the pancakes…
As mentioned before, the Botanic Gardens are not usually crowded, probably because they are a bit off the beaten track, but they are easy to find in any case. You only need to find the Olympic Stadium in Montjuïc, then walk around to the back, and there it is. It’s even wheelchair-friendly, although if you’re going there you may want to make sure your wheelchair is electrical. Even when on foot, it’s a serious climb up the different paths that criss-cross all the different botanical regions (going from Australia to South Africa and so on -plant-wise that is.)
A definite plus in chising this location is that are plenty of other nice places nearby: the whole mountain of Montjuïc offers the visitor a lot of different sights, so you will be able to spend an entire day in the area, such as Poble Espanyol, Castell de Montjuïc and the MNAC!
