Parc de la Ciutadella
There is a little park in Barcelona called Parc de la Ciutadella. Calling this park ‘small’ is accurate, but only if you think about other parks in the world like Hyde Park or the Golden Gate Park. In a way, Parc de la Ciutadella is an oasis in an already very green city. The park is always buzzing with activity, especially in the summer when families flock to the park with their children to relax in the sun and simply enjoy being outdoors.
You’ll even find the remnants of a small lake in the park -which unfortunately at the moment is dry. Were there to be water in it, you would be able to take one of the little boats and go around. For the little ones, there is also a lot of room to relax and to play around the mammoth. Yes, there is a mammoth in the park, but don’t worry, it’s not alive! Incidentally, and talking about animals, there is also a zoological museum at the entrance of the park, plus a zoo at the end! You will recognise the zoo entrance by the long queue of kids in front dying to get inside.
But Parc de la Ciutadella offers you plenty of other things to do. Typically, you’ll find jugglers and other artists around the park practicing their skills, as well as musicians playing. This means that you can sit under the sun, enjoy a chilled beer, watch the show and listen to the music if you want. Or how about you bring your own picnic and share something with your friends or loved ones?

Personally I prefer the park in the winter, or in the spring, when it’s not as crowded; it’s really quiet. You’ll still see plenty of people around, but if you’re not a big fan of screaming children, you’ll find it a lot more agreeable.
Overall, Parc de la Ciutadella is just a very beautiful place in the middle of a metropole and a sight you should really visit as a tourist -or enjoy if you’re lucky to live in Barcelona!
