Escribà – Chocolate Fantasy
I first came in contact with Escribà at the opening of a new art exhibition where the son of the chocolatier had a live performance. During the performance he covered two naked models with sweets, after which they started eating off each other and the audience was invited to have a taste also - not something you would expect on your regular Tuesday night.
Escribà itself is famous not only for its ingenious website, but for its particular chocolates and pastries, which are as inspirational as tasty. If you have the luck of going there during a special holiday, you will most likely see a new creation they made especially to celebrate the occasion. Last Christmas for example they had caramel Christmas trees and a very special candied Christmas calendar.
They have a small shop right next to La Boqueria in an old Modernist building. You will probably notice the building before even realising there is a bakery/chocolatier in there. And then, if you are really unlucky, you will be able to get a small table inside or outside on the street, and you will be able to enjoy a nice coffee or hot chocolate, with a nice little tart. It is more expensive than the other bakeries, but it is a different experience, a unique place with a lot of history.
